I'm having problems winding back the rear brake piston on my 2004 Touran. The piston rotates and appears to be free because it's out further than when I started. I'm trying to use a wind-back tool, but it's not working. Everything seems to be in line, but it seems that it needs more force than I can exert to get the piston to wind back in. Can anyone help?

They can need some serious force if the pads and discs were badly worn so the piston came out a long way and the piston can tilt, making it very hard to push back.

I finally worked out that I was turning the piston in the wrong direction! I got the wind-back tool that was recommended on the supplier's website and it turned out to be the wrong one. I eventually managed with a bodge using water pump pliers to turn the piston and a ratchet to lever the piston back. A bit awkward, but once I'd sussed the technique it only took me an hour to complete both sides. Thanks for the advice though.
