I'm looking for a set of bars for my 58 avant. Can anyone recommend a particular type. I've seen the mont Blanc and thule, and there's quite a difference

Has anyone got the genuine Audi version. Do they have slotted t-track holes with them. Are they overly wide?

The reason I ask is because I got the genuine bars for my megane, and I could only ever get slotted accessories. U bolts for roof boxes were never wide enough.

    Regards,
    G

    Hi,

    I have a set of these.... http://www.roofbox.co.uk/scripts/rbv..._KvPUP5iBAuQbw
Have used the same brand now on two different cars...very well made, easy to fit and lockable. I can recommend the company above too.....

I had a set of Thule Aero Bars from the company above for my C6 saloon and hired spike spiders from them and they were good with customer service

I have the genuine Audi ones which I got off ebay for £60, the rubber along the top slides out to reveal the slot for the t-bar clamps. They can be fitted/removed in seconds and I use them with a Thule roof box and Thule bike carriers with no problems.

Thanks for the replies. Does your thule box attach by sliding into the rails, or is it U Bolts?

Neither, it has jaws that clamp around the bars by turning a knob inside the box. The bike carriers slide into the slots on the rails though.

I have the genuine Audi ones, 2 issues I have with them are A) they sit quite high compared to Thule bars . B) they have locating pins, so you can only fit them in specific places along the roof.

They are well made though, and very quick to fit.

    Another vote for Thule Aerobars.
    1) Only ever had two sets of roof bars (both Thule) in 20 years as they can transfer from car to car with new feet.
    2) The model-specific feet are designed to locate into the holes in the door frames just like the OEM versions
    3) Quality is always fantastic and they carry on with spares for years and years.
    4) They look good!

I'm happy to buy Thule or atera as long as "u" bolts fit around them. Had massive problems with the Renault bars because they were 10cm wide and nothing would fit around them. Had to use the t-track system all the time.

Just fitted the atera bars and cycle carriers and you will not get a u-bolt round them. You can buy adaptors but you might need to drill some holes in the roofbox
