    Hello All,

In Jan, I bought a new A6 2.0 TDI SE auto. I have noticed, under the bonnet on the passenger side a rusty part. (photo attached)

I was told by the sales rep that its normal.

Anyone else notice this on their new A6's?

    Regards,
    PJ300

Hmmm... I'll have to nip out and have a look under the lid.
Not quite sure what this structure is, but if it's a mild steel part it's entirely possible (= inevitable) it will acquire an oxide coating. That in itself is no big deal and doesn't concern me unduly. If the item is poorly cast or machined and rust begins to pit the surface or eat in to it that's a different matter. A thin film of rust on iron or steel is pretty standard. I'm not sure I'd see the justification for chrome alloy or surgical-grade stainless steel in something like this

    Hi Kam,
    Thanks for the reply.

I have checked this out with the dealer and you are right! It's normal. The part is the drive shaft link and they all rust.
If it does fail they will cover all parts & labour under the warranty.

    Thanks PJ300
