The injectors were replaced on Monday on my A4 2.0 Tdi 170 (workshop action 23K1). The car was delivered back to me and later that day I did a 7 mile round trip. No problems encountered and like others have reported after having the injectors replaced, the car felt much better.

Today I drive the car and in stationary traffic I could smell oil burning. The same thing happened on the way home. Popped the bonnet open when I got back and there was smoke coming off the left side of the engine. Also found oil sprayed on the back of the engine bay. I didn't get chance to inspect the engine fully but it looked like there was oil around the filler cap also.

I phoned the Audi garage where the injectors were replaced and have it booked in next Thursday. They advised me not to drive the car and to get it recovered to them. They did suggest that it might have been overfilled with oil as they top up fluids whenever the car is in.

If the oil has been overfilled I hope no lasting damage has been done. The car has only been driven 40 miles since the car was at Audi.

Would anyone advise me not to drive the 4.5 miles back to the garage?

Mistakes happen and hopefully this won't be too painful to get sorted!

Pull the dipstick and check oil level. If OK it is probably the seal on the top cover which would be removed when they done the injectors or the seal around the loom plug which may not be located correctly.

I was going to have a closer inspection and check the oil level at the weekend. Unfortunately getting an accurate reading of the oil level will be difficult due to the camber of the road where the car is parked.

Not worth trying your luck.....you might do more damage. It's obviously the dealers fault.Give them a chance to sort it out by not going to them with a dead engine.Hope you get it sorted.

Probably their fault - or an unlucky coincidence! Will look into recovery but don't think the RAC will do it from home.

Surely they will have to pay?

Pay for recovery? The assumption is that the problem was caused by the injector replacement but it could just be an unfortunate coincidence. I guess that Audi should pay any recovery costs if it turns out it was their fault.

If you cant get a freeby from the RAC I would ask them to arrange recovery on the basis that it is very likely to be their fault and if not they can add it to your bill.Seems to me that if it had been road tested properly before they let you drive it they would have found the problem and had to sort it

I've had a closer look tonight at the engine. Oil level is a bit high but the car is on a camber so can't rely on it being accurate. There isn't oil around the filler cap but looks like eddiek may be right that the seal on the cover or around the wiring loom where it enters the engine could be leaking.

I've just had a 'Customer Satisfaction Email' from Audi. I shall be letting them know what's happened!

I replied to the customer satisfaction email with some feedback. I had a reply this afternoon asking if I needed a car and if I wanted mine looked at on Monday. As it happens I can wait until Thursday when the car is booked in already. I'll post an update of the outcome.
