Hi, I don't know if anyone out there has an idea but very intermittantly the engine just cuts out and the warning triangle displays on the dash. It subsequently refuses to start. It cranks o.k. but the engine doesn't start. The only thing I can see during this is the glow plug dash indicator does not come on. It usually happens a few minute after driving off when the engine is cold. My local garage has had a diagnostic unit on it and no error codes are shown. I even had a plug in storage thingy in it for 2 weeks but it didn't go wrong. When it stops, if I leave the car for 1/2 hour or so - turn the key, the glow-plug indicator comes on and goes off as usual and the engine starts fine. No glow plug ind- no start...It has gone for nearly 3 weeks before an occurance. It is driving me nuts. Anyone got any ideas please.

use an independent vw place for diagnosis
local garages have crappy software, you need a vag.com scan

there are folk on here who can offer a vag.com service slightly cheaper than most places

that'll be the ecu relay failing. dry joints on the pcb, either replace it or re solder it.

Hi Yes I did ( touch wood ). It failed again whilst I was going along about 35 mph. All other times I was going slow around a corner or something similar, so I just turned off the ignition. I left the ignition on (to avoid locking the steering ) and while I was slowing down, a low oil pressure warning came on the display. It had done this once before, but the engine had restarted straight away after pulling over and checking the oil.
After stopping, the dreaded 'glo-plug' light did not come on with the ignition swithed back on and the engine refused to start. I looked in the engine bay and 'wiggled' the sensor wire on the side of the Oil Filter mounting and heigh presto, the glo plug light came on with the ignition and the engine started. I tried to get the plug off to clean it properly, ( it did have some oil on it ) but couldn't work out how to release the catch without breaking the plug.
I have since replaced the lower engine mount as it was knackered due to oil with a polyurathane one. It's a bit more stiff than an original rubber one but will now last the life of the car. ( I hope )
Sorry for going on a bit, but it was like Christmas fo me when I sorted it. Hope you get yours sorted with the same fix. Fingers crossed. Regards

Hi, Sorry about the late reply. The problem has not reoccurred since the wiggling of the connector on the oil filter mount.
