The Car has been in to main dealer to find out why ABS/EPS lights are staying on.
They checked coding, all okay, recoded but fault will not erase, the fault is internal to ABS control unit. NEW UNIT REQUIRED. £1090 plus £250 to re programme.
Anyone have any idea what the problem could be. is it possible for water to get into the unit and cause these faults and if so what is the answer.

    Yorky,
I would suggest you find a good local independent VW specialist, who may be able to get your unit repaired.
I have a catalogue which I picked up at a trade show from a company called ACtronics Ltd, of Colchester, who offer repairs to a wide range of electronic units, and they list two ABS control units for Beetle's of your age. The prices quoted are £127 or £145 + VAT & carriage, depending on type (if your luck is like mine, it will be the dearest). I believe this company will only deal with the trade, so no DIYer's. They offer a two year warranty, so appear to be a good company. Their website is WWW.actronics.co.uk.
Whereabouts are you based, someone on here will probably be able to recommend a nearby repairer.
    Good luck, Alan
