Still having this problem. Tried starter motor + new battery. Car will start, then 1 second later dies, then difficult to start! (see video)

    ORIGINAL POST:
Not Glow plug, tested. Not temp sensor or relay. Not diesel filter or fuel pressure.
Possible weak battery or starter motor? Only happens when cold.
Car is 2005 with 56k on clock. Take a look at video and tell me what you think

I still think this is a glow plug problem because engine turnover sounds normal and it does eventually start. And you say it starts and runs fine when warm.

Only other thing that concerns me is, doesn't the red oil level/pressure warning light on the dash start flashing and there's a beep about 30 seconds into your video? I don't think that's normal.

Have you had the engine ECU's fault codes checked? I think that would have a fault code logged (even if there's no Check Engine light showing).

    Hope that helps,
    Stuart

Try operating the glowplugs 2 or 3 times before starting.
Also you could have dodgy CTS

no...def not glow plug issue...tested and all ok. Plus, this happens in mild temperatures where glow plugs don't even kick in...but, even if temp was sub zero, these cars will start ok even without glow plugs...PD Engine only really needs heater plugs in -5 and thereabouts...I had Golf prior to this that started first turn of key in freezing weather with no Gplugs working at all...I'm at a loss here but suspect it's fuel issue and maybe leak back problem. Tandem is working well, but it's the way she fires up, then dies, is making me suspect it's not getting the juice! VAG COM is totally clear and car is driving perfectly.

btw...yes, im getting low oil pressure warning when shes cranking...but that why im getting the warning...cuz it's turning over and pressure is nil ! Normal !!

I WILL GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS IF IT KILL ME!!!!!!!!!!!!! (SOON I HOPE)

Im gonna set the record straight now on glow plugs, here goes, your car (mk5 golf) DOESNT need glow plugs to start, the glow plugs aid smooth running when cold, nothing more, for the first 10mins of driving the glow plugs cut in and out to help with the combustion process and keep emissions down, the glow plugs dont aid starting like they use to 10 yrs ago, my OH has 1 down on hers (scan showed it up) when it was -4 here a month ago the car started fine but had a slight misfire for about 3 seconds, last yr i had 3 down and had a slight miss like hers, last year it was a dam site colder at -9 mine started every day, its not a glow issue and if need be id disconnect every one on mine and start it from cold to prove the point
