    Hi,
I'm thinking of changing the bulbs on my A4 B6 to LEDs.

Has anyone had any experience of this ?

The sidelights seem obvious but what about headlights ?

    Any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks for the reply, I've ordered a pair of these for the sidelights, but still unsure about the headlights.

Can LEDs really cut it as headlights ?

Sorry meant to add a description of what I ordered

I chose these because I'd heard there were issues with LEDs and the ECU, where it would not acknowledge that a bulb is fitted because of the low current draw of the LED.

The new high power LED Sidelight bulb has been designed with 5 super bright LEDs (2 on each side and 1 on top) to produce maximum light output and brightness. The sidelight bulb matches HID replacement and original HID systems. These bulbs are used when your vehicle has a bulb warning system on sidelights and also those cars with Can-bus systems like BMW, Mercedes etc. This eliminates the requirement for resistors.

I tried this on a previous car and all went well with sidelight, indicators etc. You just need to get 'error free' bulbs. As to headlights....not a simple job. Leds do not have the same light spread as a normal bulb and if you find one that fits as a straight swap the light is scattered too much.....complete carp at night cos you can't see anything! You'd need to change the whole housing fir one built specially for leds.....and from Audi that would be very steep....then you'd need to make sure you have the correct control module and coding......IMHO....not worth it. but do change all the others...makes a big difference. I've done all internal plus number plate lights on my A6 and it looks the nuts! Not git round to the others yet....brake and tail are already led though.

    Thanks Neil
That makes sense, I think I'll just stick to sidelights, indicators etc. and maybe just whack in some uprated bulbs in the headlights.

LED headlights are a definite no. I bought a pair last year at my own peril! Firstly, they would not fit into the bulb housing as they had apparently consumed one too many cheeseburgers. Secondly, before i considered modifying the light casing, I connected them to the power in order to see how bright they were; In an unlit garage they only managed to provide light to about a meter from where is was standing. I thought that this would be an inconvenience, if not plain dangerous, so gave up on the idea.
