Fitting new mmi control head unit

Keep us posted on this one, I'm watching with interest to see how you get on. I'm obviously not as brave as you as I've just chosen to avoid the buttons that are most affected rather than having a go at cleaning. If you manage it & can offer up advice/instructions there's a few of us that would appreciate your help.

I did manage it once, and I am going to give t another go when the weather gets better.

Cotton buds, electrical contact cleaner and a magnifying glass are all thats required.

no, you need to take the whole unit of 8 buttons out. You need to remove the centre console cover , ashtray and some of the covering panels to get it out.

Don't suppose there's any chance of a step-by-step guide by any chance Josh? Sounds like a few of us could use it, not least me. It would be nice to be able to use all the buttons on the console without worrying about it.

No chance at all? Anybody out there that has the know-how of how to take out the control panel of the MMI unit as a step-by-step guide?

Quite a lot of surrounding panel has to be removed seemingly, more than I thought (glove box, panel under steering wheel etc), but I will have a tentative look, maybe attempt one stage at a time & see how I get on.

, you may get away with doing a little bit of jimmying.... but if I were doing it I would like to do least bit of damage to my interior... hope its easier than it looks.

Heres a guide that will help you. There are 3 parts:

1. Removing centre console - note, I did not have to remove the climatronic unit to get mine out, so try first without removing it.
2. Separating console from the Control Head
3. Climatronic removal in case you need it.
