Just in the process of deciding on the next car.

Really want the 3.0 TDI A6 about a late 57 to 58 reg with the 233 bhp engine fitted.

Want to know peoples true MPG readings, i know these cars are quite often used on the motorway however most of my mileage is the school run picking me up from work and the odd run out at the weekend. about 200 miles per week.

What MPG are people getting on average and how many miles per tank, i believe they are either 70 or 80 litre tanks.

Am i being to optimistic with wanting to achieve 35MPG on average.

Would a remap help because i know allot of company's are giving these 50 Bhp!

Any help and advice would be most appreciated

    Thanks

My car is a 2008 '57 with the same 233bhp.

It currently has 71k and just passed its first MOT

Realistically on the motorway I get anything from 37-39 mpg, the odd time I would see 41mpg.

There is no hiding the fact that town runs I would only really get 19 - 23 mpg but really not too bad for a V6.

If I used a full tank of fuel (80 litres) on the motorway I would get about anything from 550 - 650. I'm not sure what a full tank around the town would get you in terms of range but probably half of what a motorway tank would get.

I will add more in a while, just a bit busy at the minute

My car is an Avant 2005 '55, engine code BMK 225Bhp done 73k on clock now, brought with 70K only in Aug 11. As I do about 5000 to 6000 miles a year never really monitored any of my cars much. But I fill at about when 1/4 tank remaining or just below that and trip counter reads about 500 miles a tank with mway plus little town, when do just town get about 330 - 350 a tank. Use on rare occasion in "S" equals sports mode, I would say my driving style is mixed, do like to feel power under hood when on my own but not when family with me. For large car and performance I think they average fuel very well. Have you considered 2.7 TDi some are Quattro like 3.0 Tdi and may be right balance of fuel/power?

Just as a comparison, I have the 2.7 TDi Quattro saloon..
Average 25 - 33 around town, short journeys.. where as on a good run 46-47 is easy..
Driving style most of the time is "careful"

    Do need to add....

The mpg between 3.0 and 2.7 is supposed to be fairly close... but apparently, the performance is supposed to be a lot higher with the 3.0

I did around 60K miles from new in my 3.0TDI Quattro estate, manual. Over the life of that car it did around 35mpg average. Motorway cruising would give mid-40s but round town was much lower. Didn't do too much of that but it's a big engine and cold starts and short runs aren't its strong point. Town driving consumption is even more dependent on driving style, though, but I probably achieved 25-30mpg generally.
