    Ok heres the deal.
2010 a3 sportback with 1.2 tfsi engine, about 4 weeks ago car went into limp mode, and offcourse straight to dealer under warranty. They diagnosed faulty wastegate actuator, and because its one piece with the turbo, changed the whole unit. Got my car back yesterday but it doesnt seem to have the same power, and spool, my previous turbo had. Is this normal, or should I take it back??
    Thank you
    andy

They may have changed the turbo design due to reported issues, unless you have the old turbo part number we cant see if it was superseded, which denotes a change in either supplier or parts within.

I would again state, take it back & tell them something is down on power, you could alternatively get it rolling roaded to check power output, ask audi to reflash the ecu although this shouldnt be needed tbh, we can speculate all day with various ideas, but unless we were to check the car we wouldnt be able to tell you or get even close.

    An update.
I have taken the car back to the dealer, and explained to them what the problem was. They sort of tweaked it, but its nowhere close to the original power output of 105 hp.
What I did learn was that the new turbo unit (dont know if its a new design) required a flash to the ECU in order for it to work properly. Get this, this new flash or software update "PURPOSEFULLY" decreases the output of the engine. When I asked for the ECU to be flashed with the old map, so we can obtain the original hp as claimed by the mfg. I was told that this cannot be done because AUDI wants the hp at its current level !!
***. So I test drove a car with a 105 hp output, bought the car based on these figures, and now I'm being told that I have to live with the decreased power output, because this is how Audi wants it. Can someone say LAWSUIT. If this is the case (im scheduled to bring the car back in to see what else can be done) the only thing left to believe is that the 1.2 TFSI could never handle the 105 hp originally produced, and Audi is limiting power output in order to avoid future breakdowns and costly repairs.
Audi GMBH will be getting a letter. Does anyone car to comment on this...

If it was me, I'd take it somewhere myself in the meantime to get a figure. Call me cynical, but wherever Audi send it might have an interest in producing the result Audi want.

Keep in mind that rolling roads are not exact and they do vary. I do think that if the results show only a small reduction in power (say 5%), you will struggle to reject the car as Audi will claim that that could be down to observational error. However, cross that bridge when you come to it.

Certainly if you can produce a number of external reliable readings to prove the car isnt pushing out the advertised numbers, then you have a fairly competent case for returning the car, at minimum, then you need to argue inconvenience & cost of replacing for another.
