If you're OK with the image then the Octavia is great. Taxi drivers love them because they go for ever.

Thanks to everyone for their kind advice. We've now got a much better idea of what to look for and just have to make our minds up!

    Hello again,

I've been looking for Golf Mk5 1.9TDi 'S' models. It seems there are at least three different power outputs; 105, 140 & 170PS. Is the 105PS engine gutless? Our Mk3 estate is a 1.8 petrol and has been fine but we haven't had a diesel before.

Sorry to ask such simple questions!

    Hi,

You will find the 105 ps more than adequate for normal motoring, one of my friends tows quite a large caravan with his, and is very pleased with it. I believe the 140 and 170 are 2.0 litre, after reading about the injector and oil pump drive problems on this forum, personally, I would not want one of them. (This will no doubt provoke a reaction, but it's just my opinion, the 1.9 appears almost un-burstable if serviced regularly.)

    Cheers, Alan

Somewhere around that, yeah. When I borrowed my mum's Mk.5 1.9 TDI a while back I got 55mpg. Enjoy your new car!

No it's still the original. The guy we bought it from said it didn't need doing but I gather it may need doing at 40000 miles?
