Hi, Im new to this forum, does anyone know of the following problems im having.

When I first bought the car it was like an angry pepperami through the gears very nippy! (Compared to a VECTRA I had before) The Passat occasionally has an ok start and pulls a bit from start but not like what it used to be like and then sometimes its like a pepperami again. It used to hesitate when rolling in traffic at 2000 rpm, it doesnt seem to do that now after a service (cam belt changed too as it was due)

VW checked it out before I had the service done, they said there was a slight play in the turbo but nothing to worry about. Is this nothing to worry about till it does blow and shoots its insides into my engine where VW will tell me to empty my bank account to get the bits out of my engine!

Other problem is slight judder when the engine is started first thing in the morning and seems slightly noisy like an old diesel car, judder clears after a few seconds, its asthough the glow plugs arent hot enough and the oil isnt circulating making the engine quieter.

    Any ideas? Ta!

If the power seems to be coming and going, I am surprised you don't have a dash warning. Most engine faults will produce a warning. Have you had the fuel pump and fuel filter checked as these don't give a warning.

Hi Ive changed the fuel filter and its still the same, Ive not had the pump checked. Any ideas on the engine noise. Its seems to be getting slightly louder (not sure if its to do with it being -2C at the mo) Sounds like someone forgot to put oil in it. Im sure when I got it the engine was a lot quieter.

It sounds like oil may be slow to circulate. It might be worth asking the VW dealer what oil pump arrangement your engine has. They should be able to tell from the chassis number. The oil pumps can be a weak spot on these engines if the oil hasn't been changed regularly or the wrong oil has been used. Poor servicing/oil can also lead to worn camshafts which can make the tappets and injectors sound a bit noisy. You really need someone to listen to it start up when cold.

Thanks, I had a similar start up problem with my old vectra cdti turned out to be the glow plugs in the end. May take a trip to the VW dealers if I get a mo. I wouldnt mind I thought id buy a VW as I thought it would have been better build, then again I suppose wear and tear and all that.

Well I guess my Passat doesnt like Supermarket diesel! As previously mentioned the car was poor in power at set off, I thought id try some BP normal diesel....What a difference thats made. My car is like what it used to be again! Manages to spin in second theres that much torque through the front wheels

Going to buy some new glow plugs and see how we get on with the morning start. Found a couple of placed on ebay for plugs between £32-£40 for a set NGK are the £40.

I wonder if the crap diesel has done anything to my oil to make it slightly louder?? Im not a mechanic just a thought if anyone knows.
