    Hi Guys,
More of a survey-style post I guess. With fuel prices getting ever more expensive, the price of Premium fuels like BP Ultimate are pushing up to as much as 154p+ in some areas. The question is...which fuel do you use? and is it worth paying the premium for better quality fuels?

In my previous 2004 model A4 I used to use BP Ultimate diesel...and I did notice a difference. It smoked less, made less of a tractor noise and was noticely easier to start on cold days. With my current car..I've still been using BP Ultimate, but not sure that I can actually notice any real world difference. I can categorically say that when I bought my car, Audi told me directly not to use supermarket fuels as they had experienced issues with poor quality fuel, especially if they contained a large amount of bio-fuel. Thoughts? Ideas?

Who within Audi told you this? I can't find any official references to it, so I'm genuinely curious.

It was a salesman at Southend Audi when I took delivery of the car. I can PM you the name if you wish? It is also in the manual not to use bio-fuel...

I use bog standard diesel, whether it be from Shell, Tesco, BP, Sainsbury's etc. Do I notice any difference in performance, economy between any of them ..... nope!

Tried Shell V-power diesel once....................... bit on the expensive side........

At the end of the, it's not a highly strung performance car, so does it really matter ?

Apart from this week, it's regular diesel from which ever mainstream forecourt has the "lower" price in the immediate area. That way I get some comfort knowing I am doing the absolute minimum I can for Mr Osborne.

    No brand loyalty here.

I think that joke didn't work as the tax is fixed anyway. Still, anything goes.

I avoid supermarket fuels and stick to the main brands. When Tesco were selling contaminated fuel a few years ago, it became apparent that nearly all the supermarkets were getting their fuel from the same place, but each blending theirs slightly differently - it seemed to me that that made the final product fairly arbitrary/random and so I have avoided supermarket fuels ever since. I have been using the premium unleaded in my car from new - I believe all the hype about it keeping the engine cleaner and giving more miles to the gallon etc etc.

9 times out of 10 Sainsers diesel, if I'm getting desperate then anybody else's.
Once in a blue moon (3-4 months?) I give it a tank or two of V-Power for no good reason.

As for less less smoke from premium diesel ... I've never seen so much as a wisp of smoke out of mine on the road (Once it failed to start at 1st attempt, when it started 2nd attempt it gave a small cloud).

Shell or Esso norm diesel. Only if I am stuck will I use supermarket fuel.
When I had my B7 I had a miss fire issue, the first thing I was asked by the Audi service department was, did I use supermarket fuels? At that point I did, I stopped after that.
However it didn't fix the problem.

I have always used V Power in my S4 and previous 2.0 TDI B8. I had to use the Tesco premium stuff this week, but that's a temporary thing. Works out to be about £6 a tank more. Can't say I have noticed a difference thus far but will go back to V Power next fill up.
