    Hi all

Would it be possible to replace the dash clock from my A6 for another from the same range or are the clocks linked via the ECU thus meaning the engine wont start?

Affraid the Imobiliser is coded to the dash and so it would not work unless you ask for the replacement to be coded to the car, why do you want to change it?

I tried to replace the LCD screen and have managed to damage the printed circuit board. My only option now is to replace the clocks.

Would I be right in thinking that any VAG dealer could reprogram the replacement clocks?

Yes they should be able to do it, check 1st with a dealer before buying any 2nd hand unit, assuming you are not buying a new one.

My 2000 A6 Avant 2.4 had problems with the lcd screen for several years. I tried all the usual remedies like buying a 'how to do it cd' off ebay for £5 and took the whole unit out many times. Spent months trying to track down someone who could repair it and eventually sent it off for repair at a very well known repairers !!. They said it couldn't be repaired and personally, I think it ended up that way whilst it was there. I had to ask specifically for it to be returned as well. In the end I had to bite the bullet and buy a new one from Audi. These clocks are very model specific and each has a unique Part No. depending on the vehicle spec. By the time that I had it put in, coded in and with the mileage corrected etc. I was so glad to have it sorted that it helped me to forget about the cost. Sadly approx. £750 + !!! However, have never regretted it as I was just thrilled to bits to get the lcd back.

you can buy a tool called: vag commander, there are clones available on ebay (whether you agree with that or not is beyond the scope of your question, i'm merely mentioning it to you) you can, with this tool, read, write and program immobiliser data into your new clocks. All you have to do is find a set of clocks with the same model number) you'll then be able to fit said clocks, code it to your car, write the immobiliser data and match it to your keys then write the mileage to the dashboard. You'll be done and finished in about 4-5hours all in and MUCH cheaper than the dealer.
