Possibly belt related? Auxillary belt / pulleys can squeal when worn. Does it rise and fall with engine revs?

    Hi Carl55,

If the noise is evident when taking up drive i.e. letting the clutch out under load/in gear, it sounds to me like your clutch thrust bearing is in need of replacement. This is normally replaced when a new clutch is fitted.

Hardly a "bank-job-getaway" type moment... the clutch assembly is a consumable item on any car.

99% certain it is theclutch release/thrust bearing, cost for the bearing approx £15 to£35 depending on quality and where sourced from. If this has gonethough I would recommend changing the clutch pressure and friction plates too as it would befalse economy not to as the gear box has to come out to replace it!Sounds worse than it is if you have never done one before. A full“clutch kit” includes the bearing and pressure/friction plate, expect it to cost between £110 and £160 to buy. Shop around if youend up getting a garage to fit it and make sure they change thebearing too!
