Parking in carpark, Moved DSG Shift from Drive to Park and loud thump heard and felt, engine cut out. Alarm ping and MFD showing 'Failure ESP'. On the Shift indicator P flashing.
Tried to restart with foot on brake as usual.
At 1st position of ignition key 'Failure ESP' indicates, alarm pings and P flashes on shift indicator.
At cranking position of ignition key MFD says move Lever to Park or Neutral. Nothing happens, no attempt to crank the engine.
VW Roadside Assistance attended, connected his laptop and diagnosed probable faulty Powertrain CanBus Gateway in Instrument Cluster.
Towed to local VW Dealer. On their computer and in contact with VW UK tech department they diagnose the Mechatronic module is faulty.
New Mechatronic module is only available on back order from Germany, may take 1 week to obtain one.
Am a bit puzzled as the original indication was ESP Failure, how does a DSG Mechatronic fault cause an ESP Failure indication. Diagnosis by the VW Roadside Assistance as a Powertrain CanBus fault sounded quite plausible.
Searched the Internet but didnt find any reference to same symptoms as above. Has anyone seen anything like this before ?

Hi and welcome, I'm no expert on DSG faults but I'm confident both interrogations were saying the same thing albeit the roadside chap was possibly describing a symptom as opposed to the fault.

I'd imagine the ESP is tied into the Control module ?, hopefully one of our experienced members will soon put your mind at ease.

Fingers crossed you're back on the road anon
