    Hello chaps,

Im new to the passat world and have just brought an x reg, 1.8 v5 20v estate.

The cambelt has snapped and I guess bent quite a few valves. The car has done 190,000 miles.

I am thinking of serveral options
    1. engine change-tdi
    2. rebuild head
    3. new head
    4. engine change same engine type.

    1. Apart from engine what other parts would need changing?

    2. have average mechanical knowledge, but limited tools, will it be possible to change the valves my self?

    3. Any ideas where i can get a cheap secound hand head

    4. Same as above.

Any information or guildance is much appreciated!

    Kieren

The cheepest option would be an engine from a slavage yard, my local has 1.8's 1.8 turbo etc

No idea on price, but less than a golf item as its inline and not transverse, sump need to be changed to fit into a mk1/2 golf etc. so no good for modders.

I would say you need the ecu, manifolds, airbox, throttle body and you'll be away. maybe some of the loom
