As per title, my 2007 A4 avant auto has the Emission control system light on, and the car has gone into limp home mode. It drives fine on flat roads (although acceleration is not is good as it was) and downhill, however it wont go above 3000 revs and 20mph up hill.

This only started after the previous evening I drove the car approx 3 miles after the fuel tank reading was on 0 miles. The following morning the problem occurred.

Is the fault simple coincidence or have i managed to introduce some gunk into the system from the bottom of the fuel tank.

Any info or advice greatly appreciated, as I don't fancy going to my local Audi dealer and getting stung for a massive repair bill without any info on the possible problem.

    thanks Jon

you need a VCDS scan but i would have thought it will be the throttle flap motor, very common on the 140 TDI

    Thanks for the reply,

Is this something a local non specialist garage can do, or should i take it to registered Audi dealership.

It was the EGR valve, needed a new one, the cost was £280 fitted by a non specialist garage.

I have just had the same light come on as well. Spoke to Audi they said it is ok to drive if the light in continuous but if it starts flashing I should stop and call roadside. I have a 2.7 tdi.
