    Hi,

I've just bought a 2.0TFSI Quattro Avant which has Pirelli P zero tyres at the moment.

My brother had an 2006 S line non Quattro and remembers the Pirellis wearing faster than what he had afterwards (what kind they were he can't remember).

Any recommendations for all year round use? It looks like £170-225 per tyre, but lots of choice, any avoid at all costs ?

    Thanks

Just changed the rears on my 142 S Line (19") @ 36,000miles. The original fit was Dunlop Sport Max and I have changed them for Conti Sport Contact 3s.
I change the front tyres for the Contact 3s at 18,500miles, the Contis still have 3-4mm left after 18,000miles.

I test drove a couple of quattros, one with Pirelli's (2.0TDI) and another with Dunlops (3.0TDI). I personaly didn't like the Pirellis.

I got 30k out of my Dunlop Sport Maxx GTs, which I was very happy with. Put exactly the same on when they needed changing. I did swap the fronts and backs a few times to keep the wear even.

If you want good wear then Dunlops seem to wear well. If grip is what you are after Michelins PS3s are superb, far from cheap but a superb tyre. I personally hate Dunlop to drive on. in fact I once bought an A4 that had a full set of nearly new Dunlops on it... I hated them so much I changed the whole lot within weeks of getting the car. Once the Michelins were on it could have been a different car it drove so well!

    Hi

The Dunlops were a very hard compound for what was meant to be sporty tyres. The grip was awful and even though they were very new they caused the front wheels to skip and skid (also known as quattro push) when driving slowly on full lock (or even sometimes half lock)... they were just really bad. As soon as the michelins went on the car came to life and was as a Quattro Sline Audi should have been. The Michelins also removed the quattro push issue.

I'd agree with skymaster. The Dunlops are OK, not wonderful in the wet, but I've recently changed to Conti Sports Contact 3 and the car is better all round.

I'm getting nowhere near 30k out of my Dunlops

My B8 is not Quattro but is 170. It came with Bridgestone REO tyres but I don't think they are good enough to warrant the cost. They wear quite fast and are noisy. I am sure alternatives can be AT LEAST as good but probably at a lower cost.
