My car was running fine until one morning it would not start. All the electrics worked ie the alarm and central locking but when turning the key the dash would light up but no power to the engine.

The car will start with a bump start but when left over night wont start again. This only happens now and then so not every day??? I have had a auto electrician check it and he suggested it was the ECR unit. This was replaced along with a new battery and was fine for a week. Then the problem started again. The fuses have been checked and all the output is showing right. I started to disconnect the battery at night and its started fine in the morning, but leave it connected and its totally dead again.. I have also disconnected the mulit changer and turn the radio off and heated seats off at night.

Its frustrating and no one seems to know what the problem is.

    Please help..

    I have a VW Golf 1.9 GT TDI 130

Think you maybe right, auto electrician came out again and said he wiggled a wire and the car started without being jump started. Looks like need a new starter motor.

    Hi.
I would try and get the starter diagnosed. A new solinoid is around £50 wheras a new starter is around £125.
I am presuming that the solinoid can be replaced. I am no expert and am going on my own personal experience. Maybe Crasher could help ?
    Good luck !

Its going somewhere today to be looked at... I have been told that it can be reconditioned for £50.00. Apparently its too much hassle to get the solinoid replaced and its wise to replace the whole starter motor...You may not be an expert but my auto electrician had been unable to diagnoise until I mentioned what you said and then funny enough he checked it...
