    Hi all
I,ve got a 2.0 ltr tdi a6 2008 had a really good quote to have a towbar fitted but that dont include a re-coding in the price. They have told me that if i have a bypass relay and the wiring joined into the loom i wont need a re-code but if i have the specific wiring kit i do need to have it coded.
Been to Nottingham Audi and they were very unsure as to the process required and have quoted me 2 hours labour at £110 per hour + vat which i find a bit pricey
I do have a friend who works on bentleys and has access to VAG-COM and says he should be able to do it for me even though he has never done one, will it just be a matter of plugging the car in and being prompted by the software or does he actually need to know what to change
Any help on this would be very welcome
    Thanks Simon

I had a Westfalia detachable towbar fitted to my 06 3.0tdi Quattro Avant 18 months ago.
I had it supplied and fitted by a specialist towbar fitting centre. They sourced the wiring kit from the local Audi dealer but were unable to code the kit to the car for me.
An Independant Audi specialist charged me £30 to code it to the car and the Towbar fitters deducted that from their charge. The total cost of everything was £500
I'm fairly sure that Westfalia make the OE towbars for Audi.

Here I am trying to be helpful and you go and start using the 'C' word.
Go and wash your mouth out with soapy water.

I've measured the clearance between the bumper and the nearest point of the tow ball. It's only 45mm, so you wont be able to hang on one of those pig iron damage limiters that the inept reversers seem to favour.

My car is an Avant, I don't know if the saloon is any different.
