Water in boot below space save spare wheel

Just checked my tyre pressures today and also the spare. Took it out to check and noticed a load of water in the boot

Checked the rear carpets, dry - checked the rear wash wipe didn't leak when operated, OK - no other visible holes!

Anyone any ideas on this - 2007 MY A3 - any issues or known problems with this happening?

Have you had the boot liner off to check for leaks ?

Very common fault is either the connector leaks (or breaks when frozen ) and water runs down the inside of the boot lining or the motor corrodes inside and leaks.

New wiper motor is the usual repair.

Hi Mike,

I had this problem in my 1999 Golf Gti Mk4, where the pipe was loose off the rear wash connector on the wiper motor. I would have expected this design issue to have been resolved on a 2006/7 car, especially after the numebr of faults this has caused, so I didn't look at that as a possible problem! However, as I use green washer additive in the reservoir, I syphoned up some of the water into a glass container and the water is totally clear - which I now suspect to be rain water.
Looks like the misses will be soaking the car with a hosepipe again tomorrow with me in the boot!!! Ha Ha

When I first bought my car, I also had a small amount of water in the spare wheel area. I wiped it up and it hasn't come back since...Thankfully. I hope that you get to the bottom of it.

Could be the boot seal tbh, known this to happen & what it does is goes down & round the seal, settles at the bottom & then dribbles into the spare wheel well, as you say hose pipe job.
