    Hi all,

I'm just curious what your opinions are.

I currently own a '54 2.0TFSI S-Line (FWD) which I bought in March 2010. I had the car serviced by my local dealership in Feb 2011, owing to a 12 month used guarantee that I wanted to utilise if the need arised (which it did).

I changed the timing belt/pump/tensioner/accessory belt myself back in August 2011 with genuine items.

The car is now due for it's second service under my ownership (short-life). I'm currently planning on doing the service myself.

I still have finance on the car for another 1.5 years, at which point I'm not sure of my plans of what to do with the car (possibly getting a Quattro or WRX).

Would you pay for the dealer servicing or do you think I should just do it myself (given the timing belt has already been changed by me)?

    Cheers!

How much is it going to cost you to do the service? Did you know Audi do fixed price servicing (which depends on minor/major service and engine size) which is fairly reasonable.

I would weigh up the difference in cost and if its significant then do it yourself. If its less than £100 difference I would put it into Audi and hope the benefit of FSH makes up for the deficit when you come to sell it...

I'd service it yourself if you intend to keep the car for a while. Keep the receipts for the bits you have fitted.

I really don't believe full Audi service history adds any value to a 8+ year old car. It won't be worth much when it's 10 years old so spending thousands on Audi history is a false economy.

The other option is to take it to an independent to keep service history intact.

I do a full service myself when it's due and when the oil needs changing next i just take it to the main dealer for them to do a interim service(i believe that's what it's called)where they only change the oil and oil filter for £149,just to keep some sort of service history.

I think after 5 years or 100k it does not really make a difference if it's fash as long as the car is in good nick it will sell itself.

On older cars I always find calls to two or three dealers and a bit of haggling works. Main dealers are super keen to get your car in, in the hope they can up sell you other work. So I have had always gotten good results by haggling over the base service costs.

I've decided to service it myself. Going to change the gear oil too. Bought some neodymium magnets to stick to the sump/'box. Also bought the proper oil canister drain tool.
