    Hi,

I am trying to get hold of a bulb kit for my MK6 Golf, as all the bulbs seem to be push in or different to any I already have. My local dealer says there is not a bulb kit available. This seems a bit odd for a car that came out in 2009! Has anyone found a bulb kit available? I notice as well that the main beam is a H15 bulb also containing the DRL filament.

    Many thanks

    Ian

Which is good thinking because the DRL being constantly on, the bulb only lasts about 1/3rd of the time, so you change headlight bulbs thrice as often. What do you recon about £22 each.

I think it is even worse than 1/3 of the time.
I guess most people only use their high beam a small percentage of the time.
If you use the high beam 2% of the time, the bulb will need replacing 50 x more often, compared with just high beam.

On the other hand, a dedicate DRL bulb would need replacing just as often, but perhaps could be a cheaper bulb type.

Presumably the headlight unit costs less to manufacture and install because it only has one bulb.

    LEDs are the future...

I bought a bulb kit for my 2009 (2010MY) MK6 Golf from main dealer - part number 000 998 204 . Haven't had cause to use it yet but bought for continental touring.
IMHO it's better to buy a long life bulb (LL on bayonet fitting) from VW than a cheap bulb from other sources. Quite apart from lasting longer the difficulty of changing bulbs ( scratched & bleeding hands) is drastically reduced in frequency. Also if a bulb kit is bought from some dealers, the dealer will fit them free of charge ( mine does).

Wrong headlight bulb, you need a H15 for the latest model with DRL's. What you could do is take the H7 kit which does the dip beam and all the other lights and add the H15 bulb to it.

Not so sure about that! The DRL filament is under-run (which is why people complain that it gives a yellowish light) so I'd hope that it will last for years... time will tell of course.

? does that mean there is a voltage dropping resistor in circuit to run the bulb below 12V ?

here is something I didn't Know.
To comply with ECE regulation R-48, since August 2006 headlight lamps in cars with new type approval must be installed in such a way that the light source can be replaced using the manual’s instructions and the vehicle toolkit. OSRAM’s SNAPINLITE provides a simple and safe solution. It is already in successful use in the current sixth generation VW Golf. The front lights include OSRAM H15 dual filament lamps, which assume the full beam and daytime running light functions and are fitted with a SNAPINLITE base. In the Tesla Roadster electric car an H9B with OSRAM’s SNAPINLITE takes care of the full beam. With the H8B, H9B, H11B and H15 halogen lamps as part of OSRAM’s SNAPINLITE range the appropriate lighting solutions are available for all modern headlamp functions, which give OEM the opportunity to develop application-friendly lamps
So no more having to get the garage to drop the front bumper and take the headlight units out to change the bulbs like my last Volvo V60 then !

That would be the best bit of legislation the EU has managed so far. But and it is a full bodied but, vehicle manufacturers seem to ignore it, as very few cars can have both sides changed without taking half the under bonnet bits out first, or you need the hands of a 5 year old. I might be wrong,

The Roomster ones were a doddle, you need to get into the back of the light cluster to change the beam setting for driving on the Continent... Pity the Golf doesn't have that facility...
