Torsen quattro on the c6 platform/any longitudinal platform. Manual gearbox gives piece of mind...however the quattro auto gearboxes are fairly reliable !

My tiptronic box has been 100% reliable over the 47k miles I've had the car. The multitronic box is the bad egg in the range and I dont particulary like it.

Drive the auto, it suits the big V6 well and it can work the power better than the manual box version I test drove before the auto.

All A6 C6 are proper Quattro's, we have been selling Audi for 20 years and the Tiptronic box is reliable and gives very little cause for concern, multi's have had issues but much less so from 2008 onwards. Quattro will make your search harder though and they will always make a premium.

Try to source a car with exclusively main dealer servicing and depending on your budget the 2009 model year car (facelift) has many improvements over the previous car and looks considerably newer with the LED front/rear lights. Either way a 2.7 TDi manual (non quattro) is a good combination and will be the best VFM. Beware of the tax banding of 2.7 TDi Quattro auto's as depending on when they are registered the emissions may put it into the over 225g catergory or in money terms £460 pa to tax!

If I recall correctly from when this came up before...

    2.7 manual is FWD only
    2.7 quattro is auto only

You'll have to go to the 3.0 to get a manual quattro.

Yes this is indeed true, didn't make it clear in my post. Strange as the A5 2.7 TDi only comes in multi and non Quattro, I'm sure Audi know what they are doing!
