    Hi All

I would like to know what my options are and costs involved for improving standard allroad headlights. Mine are awful on dipped beam. Also reversing light is poor can i put a brighter bulb in without blowing the fuse ?

You can fit xenon units to the front, I got mine off eBay for about 60 pounds. Probably a much better idea than brighter bulbs which could melt the wiring and plastic in the lamp

You can by xenon bulbs for less than that, do you mean HID,

I Just fitted an HID kit to mine, ebay cheap specials £30 for the kit, H1 6000K, definatey better light especially in wet/poor weather, my opinion not a hugh difference in the brightness of the light coming from them but more a better use of the light, white light seems to light up the subjects in front much better, especially in rain (plenty of that here!!)

legally to fit HID's I think you are supposed to change the light unit, for one designed for difusing the light from HID bulbs, have self leveling lights &/or suspension and headlight washers, the standard allroad has 2 out of 3, !!

to fit the ballasts/wiring properly I removed the headlights which means bumper off job, but all managable in about 2 hours,

    regards

    Andy

Yep, I meant HID with the ballasts. I did the same as you, but my kit was a tad more expensive. I found it to be a very big improvement but my bulbs were 4300K so they should be brighter than the 6000's.

I couldn't decide 4300k or 6000k yes the 4300k should be brighter but eventually went for the 6000k as I bet myself anything would be better than the standard A6 headlight. You also get what you pay for, perhaps thats why yours could be brighter!!

I just changed the fogs, side and full beam to Xenon whiter burning bulbs to tie them all together, the old ones just looked yellow next the to HID's!!

    regards

    Andy

Hid's are high intensity discharge, if you search ebay for hid kits they come complete with every thing you need, you need to choose the bulb type and the brightness, the main beam on my allroad is h1 bulbs, so example search, h1 hid kit 4300k, yours may differ if they are newer headlamps.

    Regards,

    Andy

The 4300K bulbs are closest to the OEM HID lights, I am running these and they make a big difference.
If you find a set with a smallish ballast it will fit inside the headlight fitting.

Is there an issue with the legality of these kits? Would they need to revert back to original at MOT time?
