    Hi All,

I have been hankering for the RNSE set up for a while but as I only have single DIN I just can't justify the cost and labour. Is there an supermarket flip screen alternative that lots in keeping with the rest of the dash? Does anyone have anything installed that they have pics of?

    Thanks,

    Mike

You can keep your existing climate control unit it will need to be trimmed to fit lower down underneath the rnse I've seen several done like this and you can't tell, Get a second had unit and a double din cage.
As for alternative sat nav units there are plenty of cheap crap ones from China which alot of people regret once installed.

Full vcds HEX-USB-CAN Interface available in the staffordshire area PM me

Use your current setup with a Tom Tom. If you went for a single din with flip out it will cover your cup holders and might also cover the air vents so I wouldn't recommend this.

Going double din is not as expensive as you would think. The actual double din cage is about £45 from Audi dealer (thats how much I had to pay for mine from them). Getting somebody to do the conversion may cost you a little but I wouldn't pay more than £20-£30 for this because it is not that complicated. You are looking at 1.5-2 hours if you know how, if not maybe double that time. I asked somebody to do mine, the guy had never done the conversion in an Audi before so it took him ages, but he did have all the bits and parts needed to take it all apart and put it back together, otherwise had I known he would take as long as I would on my own, I would have done it myself.

Trimming the climate control is really easy and I would suggest you trim a little and then check if it fits. Repeat this process until it fits perfect.

Like RMH1 posted, the cheap chinese imports are not worth a penny and you will regret it if you went ahead and got one of these to install. The RNS-E and it's adapters is what will cost you a ton of moneys. That's why I went aftermarket and got a Pioneer double din (AVH-3300BT). Cost me just a little more than a chinese import and worth every penny I spent plus more. I paid £200 for mine, it was almost new with box and all fittings etc plus the guy had already done the loop fitting on it so that DVD's would still play whilst the car is being driven.

    So you are looking at:

    Double din unit - £200+
    Double din mountin - £45
ISO wiring for double din aftermarket unit - £20-£30
    Conversion - £20-£30
(once the conversion is done the double din unit install is straight forward)

For a little over £300 you will never regret the many advantages.

    Hi,

Thanks for the replies, agree about the flip screen, I had thought about that (although the cup holder rarely gets used as it is terrible!!). I'll rethink the double DIN conversion, MFSW first!

    Cheers,

    Mike.
