passat 1999 no reception on AM station

all the AM station has no reception , i did change the antenna still not working ????

Is this a saloon or estate? On the roof mounted antenna's the AM only works if you have 12v fed down the centre core of the aerial lead. In fact the amplifier for the screen mounted aerials also requires this...

The factory radio provides this as standard - an aftermarket one doesn't.

ok this is the factory radio with cd changer, I bought the car new in 1999 and I can't remember the last time I did listen to AM station but it was working, fm cd and tape work fine...now any suggestion??? the FM reception also is poor but working

if you disconnect it and plug any aerial you can find that fits into the main cable

my favorite would be airel base....they all seem to go.....if you go to www.passatworld.com and type in "poor reception" on there search, there is a lot of info there..........

thanks for the tip. someone on that web site is talking about coding, check

the coding with VAG COM and it was (05407) for a passive antenna ...how do check if the right coding is program

I said base and coding will not do anything to the reception you have either got a short to earth in the coax,faulty radio or faulty base as thats the full circuit
