Top End Engine Rattle

My 1998 Passat 1.9TDi Sport has done just under 94,000 miles and has recently developed a what sounds like a top end engine rattle, particularly under acceleration. However as the car performs well I just wondered if this was normal for this type and age of engine and whether I need to do anything about it. GSD.

It could be tappet's 94,000 isn't alot of miles they will do big mileage if looked after.
Get the top off and have a look.....

Try checking the oil level. If its low this can cause a 'rattle'.

Mine has nearly done 120K and the engine sounds a bit tappety. Is it easy to adjust? I have never been that deep into the engine on any of my previous cars.... I do have a Haynes book of lies for the car, so may consult that, but It is at my new house and i am not there at the moment!

I have another rattle which I am sure is the exhaust of the heat sheild somewhere, perhaps this could be the same or you. It resonates when I go above 2000 rpm, and then again when the engine decelerates through that area of the revs. If I get a chance to get under my car tonight I will tell you what I find!
