I recently had my rear pads replaced and because they (main dealer) could not rewind the pistons I had to have both rear calipers replaced.(£700) Now,3 weeks later, whilst driving along the road the 'Parking brake fault' light illuminates. When I engage the brake only the RH functions.Switch off ignition & it resets till next time. The garage says the fault code suggests a voltage problem. The remedy is to replace the 'control module',£300-£400. Could a faulty rear caliper be causing the voltage problems...???

Get the original dealer to sort it. Sounds like the controller is not happy with the values comming from the rear epb motors. It is unlikely you ever need two caliper motors and a controller. Point out to the dealer that you expect to pay for a fault repair, not for every possible part that might have caused it.

Parking Brake is now on & will not release. Have tried the battery disconnect method but with no success. Dealer has supplied me with a new switch in the hope that this will resolve the problem. Car is stuck in car park 30miles away so I will try tomorrow. Is it possible to release brake by applying voltage direct to caliper motor & if so which pins??

NO ! You can release the epb by taking off the motor and backing off the central torx shaped caliper drive by one turn. Then refit the motors. Don't use the epb after that as it will probably jam again. The new switch might be all you need though.

Thanks for all the help guys.... After much 'tinkering' (switch change did nothing) the RH caliper released but I had to unwind the LH. Not difficult but I would not want to do it in a supermarket carpark.. will have to tackle the dealer next week when it goes in for Injector check.. Why is it only Passats that seem to be problematic ?
