    Hi everyone

Could anyone help me please, I need to know what the offset and stud diameter dimensions are for a standard set 17” Seattle Shadow alloy wheels off my VW golf MK6 GTD. Do they have larger brake disc than standard Golf’s ? The reason being is I am in the process of buying some winter steel wheels off ebay.

The wheels off ebay are VW Golf MK6 16” steel wheels with 205/55 R16 91T tyres

    Dimension of steel wheels

    112mm stud diameter,
    rim width 6.5J
    offset 50,
    5 stud

    Would these fit ???

    Regards

    Paul

There are plenty of winter tyre threads on VW forums if you search, I don't need any so I'm not bothered about them Paul.

Be very careful when changing your tyres - Speed and Load rating is important too, the "91T". I know people just go ahead and find the cheapest tyres, and even the tyre fitters will say that in Winter you seldom go too fast, but my insurance company takes a different view....

They were adamant that even if I went down the Winter tyre route the load and speed rating would have to be the same, "91V" on my 122bhp 1.4 TSi. For some bizaare reason they stated that if I changed to steel wheels, then the premium would go up (!) - that is with Priviledge Insurance.

I left the tyres as they were!!

I am so surprised with how inconsistent the information has been, from various sources.

So make sure you tell your Insurance company, else it could all become a false economy even if you get rear ended by someone who can't stop!!

According to this Privilege make no abnormal conditions when changing to winter tyres.

sorry don't know the answer about the wheel size (though I suspect they will fit) - Just wanted to respond to Jumbo's comments - when was this? - I got the same guff from my insurers last year, but this year told them I was replacing alloys with same size steels and tyres, albeit with a lower speed rating and they confirmed in writing that it was OK
    no bloody snow yet though

sorry forgot to mention - one thing they were interested in was whether or not the wheel / tyre combination would affect speedo readings - which in my case it wouldn't, but if you are looking to go down a wheel size the tyre profile would become important
