I'm considering to buy the A6 in manual gearbox, early next year. The only thing holds me back is the BHP, which is 180 out from a 2.7 V6 tdi? Seems pretty crap, my current Passat sport has 185 bhp remapped. What do I need to look out for? And how much should I pay for that spec? I had an Audi A4, bought it 153K miles and sold it 165K miles. I know Audi's will give me less hassle and problems.

    Hi Zeb.

I'm in no way an expert but I was thinking the same a few months ago whilst I was looking a V6 tdi.

I went for a 3.0 in the end as like you say the bhp on a 2.7 seems a little low for such a big/heavy car.
I also had a passage sport a few years ago which was a 1.9tdi. The passage was a manual and very I'm
Nimble I would say buy the A6 (saloon) is a different story.

The 3.0 seems to be all about tourqe as allowed to nibleniss, I hope that makes sense.?

Also I will say that I went for an auto (tiptronic) and I cannot recommend this gearbox enough.!!

I never drove a 2.7 or 3.0 manual but I can only imagine that with the engine producing that much tourqe you get up to speed VERY quickly and therefore will run out of revs.

If I pull away (normally) my box will be in 5th or 6th by about 40mph (approx)
Just something you may want to consider.?

But overall the V6 tdi engines are very good and I think you should be looking at the Nm more that the bhp.?

The only reason I want to buy the 2.7 tdi is because they have dropped down in prices, the insurance is cheaper. I want to get it in manual cause I've been driving manual cars since I past my test. I will get it remapped, and do a few more mods to the engine.

Hope you dont mind me asking this, How much did you pay for your A6? And what's the mileage on your car?

What else should I look out for when viewing the car?

I got myself a 2006 lemans with a few extras with 147k full main dealer history for £10,000

I've had the car a few months now and recently went to get the wheels aligned and a long story short it's got a couple of worn bushes on the front suspension.
The garage told me that this isn't anything really to worry about as it is very common on German cars, and although two control arms need replacing it isn't a very big job.

As for things to look for, their are plenty of people on here who are in a better position to highlight problems to look out for but the main ones can be found quite easily.

    Hope this helps.

    Tony.

    Hi Zeb,

Noticed this thread last night but had to sleep 'cos of work.

Have a look through the C6 section to see what problems we have had.

I know you said in your original post that you didnt want an auto, but please try one if you're considering a quattro. But if you're only looking FWD then forget about the multitronic box.

Would you consider going for a 3.0 TDi? MPG isnt too bad considering the size of the car (I get high 30s/low 40s on the m/way and 20ish around the town) and also the 3.0 TDi can be remapped to a safe 300bhp (Hudds Chip Tune told me this) without any modifications but you would have to seek advice on remapping the 2.7 TDi as I dont have a notion.

As long as the car has been cared for (Service wise) it should be OK, but do your usual checks first.

Whats your budget Zeb, I'll have a look around and see whats out there.

    No worries,

Tbh I don't really care about the mpg. As long as I'm getting around 40 ish on the motorway then that's fine. I would love to go for the 3.0 tdi quattro, but they are abit pricey and the insurance is pretty high. I will have a search on the A6 section for more info. 2.7 tdi s line manual is the one I'm after, and the insurance is cheap. A company called DMS?? tune tdi engines and I'm sure they can do remap for 2.7 tdi.

My budget is £7.5K, currently the car is on for sale so if it sells within 2 weeks, then I will start to search around. I am going to be abroad next month for six weeks. So probably won't have the time to search.

I have seen a few decent ones on autotrader, S line 2.7 tdi manual for around £7K, so I should be lucky to find one within my budget.

Is the flywheel/clutch kit pretty solid on manual gearbox??

If you found any decent one, then please pm me. Will appreciate it alot

There is no reason to avoid the 2.7. It is not short of power, though it obviously doesn't have as much as the 3.0. Something to bear in mind is that the 2.7 manual is 2wd (only) and the 3.0 is a quattro. 2.7 manuals are not _that_ common - it tool me a fair while to find one with a good spec.

What spec is your Audi? How long have you had the car for? 2.7 tdi would do fine for me, I don't really mind having a 2wd car, but if I had a bigger budget then I would've gone for the quattro.

S-line, heated seats, leather, colour MMI, Nav, Phone, Bose and probably some other stuff I can't remember right now. About 18 months, and it is a 56-plate.

180bhp, it will bimble about at 30mph in 6th and still accelerate or go up hills. Or stick it in third out of a roundabout and hoof it to 80; most other cars will be going backwards (possibly because they are being driven more sensibly).

650 motorway miles to the tank in the summer.
