recently changed coolant and coolant temp sensor on my 2001 2.0l azm passat . after changing them took it for nice long run and decided to check levels which were all ok but noticed that the top hoses were hot as they should be but the lower hose from thermostat to bottom of rad was stone cold but the bottom hose from reservoir was hot to the bottom of radiator was hot . does this mean a new thermostat and could this be the underlying culprit to all my management lights keep reappearing on the dash ?????? bled system at heater hose by moving hose forward to expose air hole . if new thermostat does anyone know the part number needed to replace

Sounds like the thermostat had not opened but if it had been getting too hot the dash would have told you.

Just a quc question, but does the outside temperature affect the running temperature of the car?

Tonight my journey home 38 minuts to do 18 miles average speed 28mph and 43.3mpg the outside temperature 4 to 5.5c degrease and the temperature gage did not go above 80 degrease.

Through the summer it has always run at 90 degreease, anything to worry about!

    Kind regards

Considering the average VAG temp gauge from 1998 onwards reads 90 when the real temp is 72 (and still reads 90 at 117!) then I would say that is over cooling or misreading.

I've just changed my thermostat. Only getting to 80 in summer and 70 in winter. Easy to do.
