    Hey All,
Firstly I would like to thank everyone that has helped in the past, all the advice has helped immensely! Also would like to thak this site, it's a wealth of knowledge!!
Right then - 1.6 A3 sport - My ABS went some time ago and when i finaly got it sorted the head went, bad bad luck!! Anyhow, got another block, fitted. It ran and worked fine for a long time but after a hedge bump it's been stood for 11 months! Subframe, trackrod arm, hub, two tyres, one alloy, bumper, lower splitter, ABS sensor, and a roll bar link later....not forgetting a leak inside the cabin!!, It's all sorted!!!!
    Expensive bump!!!
Time for MOT. I know that if an engine has been stood for a while then it will smoke. I've ran the engine and taken it out....maybe ....for a few miles but not many. I've been told that the exhaust will hold water and that the engine and breaks could do with a good run. Should I remove the exhaust and pour out the water? Would a good cleaner like redex help? Is there anything that I could do to clear the smoke? I've looked in the oil and water and am pleased to say that from what I can see the head is fine. The exhaust kicks out grey smoke, not like a head going but more than i expected - any advice is welcomed as I'm now fed up with driving my girlfriends suzuki swift!
    Many thanks in advance

Are you sure it's grey smoke, and not just condensation? Audis seem to steam like stains when it's cold at this time of year.

The exhaust will only 'hold water' if there's lots of condensation inside it (if it does lots of short runs and never gets hot enough to clear itself out) or if water gets in up the tailpipe (which has a downturn to stop rain).

I'd suggest giving it a good long run (about an hour's drive should be good) to get it nice and hot - this will dry off the inside of the exhaust, burn off any crap in the engine, heat the cat up and get it all running smoothly.

Thanks for the advice, I think it could well be condensation, I'll follow your advice and take it out for a long drive, would redex help to clear/clean anything or just fule in the tank and drive?

Redex won't hurt, and should help to clean the injectors.

See what the MOT man says about the emissions.
