I have installed the fog lights today. NOT yet connected to the CECM. I have a R line so have to change the CECM.

    The CECM currently installed as standard is a medium 30byte module (3c8 937 049 d), i have a highend module but it has only 23 bytes (3c0 937 049 j).

Will this work or should i source another one? I am not going to do the coding myself but would like to know if it will work and are there any benefits of having a 30byte module over the 23?

I can't help you at all, but wanted to say welcome to the forum - nice to see another fellow Scot (although I am exiled in England nowadays).

Be assured that there are many people here who will be able to help you, and no doubt continue to help you in the future.

Looking at your photos however, I can highly recommend this stuff

    Thank you martain.

So if i understand this corrrectly each CECM is only using 20 of the 21, 23 or 30bytes. so a 23byte cecm should be able to replace the 30byte cecm.

Gong to have a chat with a VW specialist in perth who will do the coding once i get all the CECM sorted.

Why change the CECM ? The normal route would be to check the coding first to see if it will accept the coding for fog lights. All you have to do is recode and see if the correct pins become live.

As far as i was aware on every other post iv seen on this you are required to have a highend CECM for fitting the front fog lights with the factory wiring through the CECM and Euro switch. And when i asked the VW dealers they told me i would have to change the CECM to fit the front fog lights!!! My current one is a medium CECM, and dont think i have to go to the basic one to have the Fog lights fitted so highend CECM it is!!!!

But still back to my original question, I currently have fitted a 30byte CECM Medium as standard, will the 23byte Highend CECM wich i have managed to get my hands on, will it be compatible with my car? dose it make a difference going from 30 bytes to 23 bytes? i dont know much about the programming or what the number of bytes effects?

    Sorry for all the questions.....
