    hi
    trying to remove sump off A4 2000 x reg 1.6 engine most of the front of the car has been removed undone all the small bolts at the front and both sides, and taken out 4 bigger bolts at rear. i have undone engine mounts lifted engine up the front of the sump cover moves a little but feels like its hinged at the flywheel end??

    is there any more hidden bolts?

    Have you removed the two bolts up into the rear main seal holder that are right up between the flywheel and the back of the sump and very difficult to get at?

    hi yes your right, i did find 2 more 10mm bolts by turning the flywheel, and looking into the 2 holes, had to use long allen key.

    now all pistons are out, the rings come off by hand very easy, and the oil control ring was compressed right in by loads of carbon.

    so good clean just waiting for new standard ring set to come, then for a light hone, then all in reverse.

    i hope to change stem seals and re-grind valves. i checked the head cant see any cracks,just wished i had the sponds to pressure test it! just hope it cures the steam and blue smoke!!
