Hi I've got a bora with a appitite for cams last one lasted 19k. Was going to replace the full engine but findinding it hard to get a arl with. A decent milage for under 1k. Was wondering if a asz would fit using my turbo and ancillaries and what's the main diffenecebetween the 2 engines

The only physical difference between an ASZ and an ARL is the pistons which are stronger on the ARL.

The head and injectors are identical so there is no reason why not. In my opinion, ARL engines eat their cams due to the loadings placed on the oil by the turbo so just swapping the engine will not make any difference. What make of cams have you been using and which oil?

It would be interesting to know if it has failed on a valve or injector eccentric.

Got car back for vw dealers feels like a complete different car compared to what it was like the turbo seems to be working much better witch last time it would be no power up till it 2200rpm and now pulling from 1200rpm. And starts better and quieter. Vw did not give reason that cam failed but there was wear on all lobes but ainly the 4th were it had wore all the tip off. What they did say the last garage put none vw lifters in could this be why it drove like a bag aof **** or something to do with timing. Cheers
