The alarm on my 1999 A4 (B5) platform) having died of battery corrosion, which killed the PCB, I Googled (other search engines are available ) for the part number, 8L0 951 605.

Apparently this part has been replaced by one with the same part number with an 'A' suffix, new prices ranging from £82 to £140. There is a VW alarm with the part number 1J0 951 605 A, which is said to be cheaper, but according to this thread http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...using-VW-Alarm the pin-outs are different.

On the Audi siren they are :
    1. GND
    2. Comm[unication ?]
    3. +12V

On the VW siren they are said to be :
    1. Comm/Signal
    2. GND
    3. +12V

Having bought a used VW siren cheaply on a well-known auction site, I'd be glad if someone could confirm this, or otherwise, and say what the consequences could be if I make a mistake !

I hope if this is solved it will enable some of the many sufferers from dead alarms to save a few hard-earned GBP.

I can't offer any clues other than to see if you could coerce someone with a passat to check the voltage/earth on the plug for the alarm and compare to the results you get doing the same on an a4. Unfortunately I don't know anyone with a passat.

I would be interested to hear how you get on though.

Good thinking, darkhorse, but I can't think of anyone I know with a Passat either. My daughter had one but it was written off by an idiot on the wrong side of the road, so she bought an A4 which I now have (along with its minor problems) ! I may venture to ask my friendly local VW pusher, and will post results.
