The thing is with computers is that many of those updates are security patches. You might not think it's broken, but it is. It's a bit like if your car's immobiliser and ignition is broken and works with any key: the key you use will work and you think all is ok, but then a theif comes allong and can start it with a screwdriver. Please, for your own sake, keep your computer up to date.

I'm not totally convinced that the footwell lights could have caused your problem, i don't know the wattage of the bulbs used, but two 6watt bulbs would only draw 1 amp, assuming that your battery was fairly healthy at the time it would take about 40 hours to totally drain, based on it being a 44Ah battery which your car should have fitted.

Golf Match 2.0 tdi 140 Bluemotion tech, fogs, folding mirrors. Reversing camera didn't make it, so enjoying DAB.

Other motor is a Nissan Pathfinder.

Pity the handbook says nothing in the interior lights section except "THE FOOTWELLS MAY ALSO BE LIGHTED" . S** A** about refer to menu lighting section to adjust same.

Personally speaking, this sort of thing does not concern me. There's too much choice and options nowadays. I don't think that I have the footwell adj. option on my menu in any case and haven't tried to get updated software. As long as the car goes reliably and without rattles, squeaks and buzzes then I'm a happy bunny. Alll the other gizmos count for very little IMHO.

The bloody car has the facility in the menu to turn the footwell lights OFF but the ***** would not tell you that under the relevant lighting section !. You have to spend several hours looking elsewhere to find it. And don't even mention the section that covers the radio.
