HI ALL, i HAVE JUST PURCHASED A NEW DETACHABLE TOWBAR WHICH I HAVE FITTED TO MY VW GOLF MARK 6 2L GT. THIS WAS A DREAM TO FIT AND EVERYTHING WENT LIKE CLOCKWORK UNTIL I HAD A LOOK AT THE BYPASS SYSTEM.I HAVE IN THE PAST FITTED ELECTRICS TO MANY CARS BUT THIS IS THE FIRST WITH THE CANBUS AND RELAY WHICH WAS SUPPLIED WITH THE TOWBAR, THE BYPASS IS A PCW UNIT AND CAME WITH FULL INSTRUCTIONS, I CAN FOLLOW THE WIRING TO THE TOWBAR SOCKET BUT AM UNSURE WHAT WIRE COLOURS TO CONECT FOR THE BRAKE , SIDE LIGHTS INDICATORS ECTIN THE CAR, ALSO I SEE IN ANOTHER POST SOMEONE USED THE SCOCKET IN THE BOOT AND TAPPED INTO THE LIVE SIDE OF THE SOCKET WITH AN INLINE FUSE TO PROTECT THE UNIT.
I AM LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO HAS CONECTED A BYPASS SYSTEM TO THERE GOLF AND ANY FEEDBACK ON THE POWER SUPPLY ETHER FROM FUSE BOX OR IS IT SAFE TO USE THE SOCKET IN THE BOOT AND WHICH WIRES TO CONECT THE SCOTCH LOCKS TO ON THE CARS WIRING LOOM . MANY THANKS JOHN.

    Try these.
The best thing is to test one circuit first using an LED circuit tester
(not one with a bulb in it)

Rear left fog light bulb grey/white
    Rear right fog light bulbgrey/white
    Right tail light bulb grey/yellow
    Left tail light bulb grey/black
Rear left turn signal bulb black/white
Rear right turn signal bulb black/green
    Left reversing light bulb Black/blue
    Right reversing light bulb Black/blue
Left brake and tail light bulb black/red
Right brake and tail light bulb black/purple

Some of these wires become plain black after the last connector,
so to see the original colour code wires you may have to remove the trim to
find them. That’s why a circuit tester helps. Saves removing so much trim.

Hi martin, Many thanks for your info , do you know if I can take a feed from the socket which is in the boot to power up the bypass unit instead of using the supply from the fuse box.
    John.

Yes you can use the rear power socket as the power supply. It might be an idea to add an inline fuse just in case, although the socket is fused anyway.

    Hi
John do not use the socket in the boot this is ignition feed & the bypass needs to a permanant live FUSED, you will need to pick up from the fusebox.

Hi PF Jones, Many thanks for your reply about the power supply from the socket in the boot, I thought this was live at all times.
I have looked at the fusebox at the side of my dash and cannot find a permanant live with my meter ?
Any ideas where it would be on this car or have i just missed it.
    Many thanks again.
    John.
