Help installing remote for central locking on R reg polo 1.6l

Hey!
So I've got a 1997 R reg polo, 5 doors and a 1.6 engine.
The car has regular central locking (only from drivers side i should note) and I've just bought a remote wiring kit to supposedly allow me to open my car from 50ft without the key.
Trouble is, the kit is universal so is non-specific to my car! I have NO idea where to attach it to! From what i can understand of the instructions I need a 12v red wire (found one of those from my cd system), a -ve wire (found one fo those too), somewhere to attach a ground (got that also). The trouble im having is finding the lock and unlock wires from my door which I apparently need to intercept with wiring from my remote unit.
I've opened the tubing in the door crease and found a small bundle of about 20 wires, and the ones I beleive to be the central locking (after a little trial and error of snipping and re-attaching wires) is a small red and a small brown wire. However, before I start snipping again and potentially bugger up my car, I thought I'd come on here and find out for sure.
Where exactly do I connect the lock and unlock wires?
I'm usually okay on doing my car up, I've installed new cd players, speakers, amps and subs etc but this is a little tricky as its not exactly obvious where the wires are! I've looked in the haynes manual wiring diagram but theres no wires of the colour it says that should be lock/unlock!!
Phew, anyways if you need any more info please ask cuz I really want to get this installed asap and I'd really appreciate any help anyone can give!!
