Somewhat to my surprise given the size of the car, it's proving tough to get 3 people in the back seat of my A8.

The problem that the seat-belt receptacles stick too far up, meaning that any adult sitting in the middle has to sit on the (very uncomfortable) buckle and socket.

I'm sure that in my old A6, the buckle was recessed deeper into the seat, meaning it didn't dig into the passenger's backside.

Any ideas for how to solve it? Can the fixing between card body and buckle be shortened? Does this mean taking half the upholstery apart to do it?

Currently getting lots of abuse from Mrs Flobble about buying a stupid car that can't seat 3 in the back. Any ideas welcome... Something more elegant than "a cushion" would be ideal!

Did you get the 4-seat or the 5-seat version?

Earlier this year we drove to Rome with 2 x 16 year olds and an adult in the back, they seemed to have plenty of room to loll around and there were no complaints about comfort.

(They did also have 2 x DVD players, 1 x laptop, Playstation2, and several smart phones to keep them busy, so they didn't seem to notice they were in a car!)

I've never heard of there being two different versions. Can you explain?

They did a 4-seat version of the A8L that had two reclining seats and two seat belts in the back, with a padded it in betw
een. You can pack 3 people on the seat but the middle bit isn't really designed to have an **** on it

With the 5 seater you get three belts and three headrests in the back. With 3 people on the seat with all belts attached, the belt mounts should pull out of the way and it should be comfortable

Ah, ok, I understand! It's a 5 seater version. No reclining seats, no centre console between the seats and 3 belts in the back.

The belt mounts are really rigid, and don't really move out of the way at all. Car is at the dealership today for a DAB radio problem; will ask them to have a look at this too.
