2.5 TDI 163 sport Multitronic Avant

I'm looking at the possibility of buying the above.

I have recently sold my B7 2.0tdi avant and want to stick with Audi.

I like the idea of a v6 Deisel with plenty of grunt but should I be put off by the multitronic box?

What will the economy be like compared to the 2.0tdi, I know it will be higher but by how much ??

I wouldn't buy another multitronic, they are great when they work but they break very easily and lots of folks on here have had big bills to fix

Mine cost £3700 to replace 18 months ago

Fuel economy can be excellent with the multi though as it tries to keep revs low as possible

My advice? Walk away and buy a manual

Buy the same car in a manual guise, 6 speed box is very good

If you want an auto go for a Quattro with the tiptronic box but not easy to find

the quattro has a different box altogether, I wish I knew this when I bought mine.. I steered well away from any auto thinking they were all multitronic! having said that the quattro/auto with 2.5tdi pushed the car into the highest tax bracket so glad I stayed with a manual for that reason.

the 2.0tdi can easily be remapped to similar output as 2.5tdi so could have been an option.

My tiptronic is the same tax as my previous manual.No gearbox problems and 115k now

just had a look on directguv site, the 2.5td1 QS manual is 216co2 and the tiptronic version is 238, 3 years ago before I bought mine 238co2 would have pushed it into the £400+ bracket, they must have changed as they are indeed as you say both the same price (£260).

wish I knew this then as I really wanted an auto but not multichronic!! 3years later i still love my QS to bits though, very good car and does 37-40mpg on a run, considering it's a 2.5 and 4 wheel drive I think that's remarkable!

I never gave the tax a thought wnen I got mine so thats lucky.My previous manual showed over 40 on the DIS at asteady 70/80 but I know this is abit of a guess but they are good
