My 2008 A3 8P came with only one key. I've obtained the correct type fob second hand, and had a new blade cut that now operates the locks.

I've tried various suggestions on forums on how to reprogram the fob to operate the central locking (not the immobiliser) but can't find one that works.

    Anyone have the information please?

You need VCDS (vagcom) to re-programme the chip to operate central locking.

It is not possible to re-programme the immobiliser chip because that is a one shot chip separate from the central locking. A new chip is required but cannot be programmed without a 'secret code' from Audi Germany.

Thats why a new key costs £150 to £180 and is only available from a main dealer.

vagcom can only program the remote as for the immobiliser. It needs to be precoded and then learnt into the vehicle dealers take upto 5 days to order the precoded key but will not sell the immobiliser transponder on its own
There is a solution though and you can get the precoded transponder the same day from these guys here
