Cheers for the reply - I thought it might as the K&N (not sure about Pipercross) is oil coated and seem to remember someone mentioning this before. Will replace with good old paper one probably from Euro Car Parts as 25% off parts at mo - thanks

I've a K&N filter fitted for quite a while now (probably nearly 2 years) with no MAF problems yet.
Hopefully i havent just tempted fate by saying that.

Fitting a "high performance" air filter inplace of the factory std. filter on a standard diesel engine is a waste of money. All diesel cars have induction systems specially designed to allow excess air ( oxygen) into the engine to ensure all the diesel fuel injected is burnt. If there wasn't enough air then some of the fuel wouldn't be burned and would result in a very smoky engine with poor economy. Thus the std. factory air filter for diesels is more than sufficient for the job.

My car was remapped but i cant say what difference if any the filter makes.

I dont think its a waste of money though if you keep the car for any length of time, mine has probably paid for itself in replacement paper filters by now.

Oily air filter + MAF = fail. IMHO.

It's widely debated and many will argue both sides of this, but the performance gains from a filter alone, without any sort of additional intake are negligible.

has anyone actually had am oily maf from a K&N or pipercross, or is it just rumours?

I have used K&N for years with no problems on previous cars, having said that no noticable performance gains either....

I put a K&N panel filter in last year and I've had no issues, but like you said no performance gain either but it does seem to breath better.
