Have found out that the third/centre brake light in the passat is not lighting up correctly- very dim across all of it. no warning lights in the dash.

    How long should these last?

Can't see how to get to the light to replace the bulb from the hatchback lid, and nothing helpful in the handbook either.

Any advice on how to replace, costs, or is this a dealer only job?

    Thanks
    Amir

    New light unit 1K6 945 097 A £42.37 (the old one was £28.12!)

Switch off ignition and all electrical consumers and disengage ignition key or start button by moving to position 0 (pre-detent).

To prevent damage to paintwork, stick a strip of commercially available adhesive tape on paintwork of roof spoiler above high-level brake light bulb -M25-.

    Caution

Ensure the seal is not damaged when removing the additional brake light.

Insert wedge -T10039/1- between upper edge of high-level brake light bulb -M25- and roof spoiler as shown in illustration.

Press brake light downwards and unclip upper brake light locking lugs to rear using wedge -T10039/1-.

Then pull the high-level brake light bulb -M25- to rear out of opening in the roof spoiler, as far as the connected wiring allows.

Note. If the high-level brake light bulb -M25- cannot be removed as described, please contact the TSC or the importer.
