Drivers Door Lock/Central Locking Problem

My 1998 Audi A4 Avant 1.6 has developed a fault with the drivers door lock and central locking.

The key will no longer open or lock the mechanism and also central locking also ceased to operate. It is not a remote system, just the manual system of sticking the key in the lock.

I assume these two issues related and wondered if the fact the mechanical part of locking and unlocking the door with the key has failed it is also linked to some sort of sensor/contact that operates the central locking.

The door has electric front windows, so should I remove door panel and is there perhaps some mechanical linkage which has become disconnected?

Any advice would be appreciated as I am just away to sell the car.

Is no-one able to give me any advice or suggestions to my central locking issues??

You are normally back with some help in hours!!

Any help would be appreciated as i am hoping to sell car soon and would like to have working before then.

Do you have access to VCDS to scan the car for any faults?

Hi Sam,

Sorry not got access to anything other than my own tools.

I just wondered if because the key wont mechanically open the lock on drivers door, if this then meant that some sort of contact was not being triggered to open the central locking.

It is an old 1998 1.6 model so no fancy key fob like my current tdi.

Sorry, I completely overlooked that part.

Usually it's the lock mechanism, solenoid or central locking pump. It seems more likely to be the mechanism given your key wont even turn the lock.

If you can open the door from the inside, take the door card off and have a poke around the lock mechanism.

If it's the pump itself, there's articles on how to remove and replace it or repair it (from AudiWorld)
