    Evening everyone advice please.

I need to replace the discs and pads on our Discovery 3. I have heard that I can replace the xisting disc with one of a larger diameter. I have been told that this will offer increased breaking capabilty. What I can't understand is how this would be. If the caliper is of the same size and the disc diameter only is changed how is the breaking power is increased?
    Any help much appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Duncan

Bigger discs normally require bigger calipers, with more friction from larger pads.(or pads mounted further from hub)

I'd agree that bigger disks will require bigger calipers as the circumference will have changed. Either way, the brakes, however big, are only as good whilst the tyres maintain their adhesion with the road surface. If they lose it, then you might as not have them.
