My father-in-law has a brand new Golf Match Tdi, picked it up 2 weeks ago. Every time he turns on the ignition, he gets a message on the display saying "Check Deadlocks, Owners Manual!".

He's been back to the dealer and they've told him "Yes, they all do that, it's not a fault".

Can anyone confirm whether this is the case, or is it possible he's being fobbed off by them? They don't seem the most reliable dealership I've ever dealt with.

    Thanks
    Steve

Steve, I get the same message on my display; it's normal and there's nothing wrong with your father in law's car.

In my manual (GTI and GTD version), the relevant section is on page 46 / 47 under 'Deadlock Mechanism'. The message is displayed to remind you that locking the car activates the deadlocks if you press the lock button once on the key fob. The manual states that this makes it more difficult to gain entry to the car. Not an issue for most owners, although I suppose it might be if you needed to gain entry in an emergency and you've not got your key with you.

A shame the dealer didn't explain this, rather than giving the stereotypical 'they all do that' response!

I think it's more to remind you that if you are leaving anything living inside the car (i.e. kids) - remember to press the button twice to un-deadlock it! My CC does it too, although I don't think the short term leased Golf 2.0TDI GT I had at the end of last year did.

Thanks SRGTD, I can set his mind at rest now. The message just seems unnecessary as a simple reminder, but I imagine he can put up with it knowing there's nothing wrong.

Thanks to all for your replies.

    Hi Guys,

Bear with me here please - I thought the first push of the remote button locked the doors on my 2009 TDI GT, but a second push engages the dead-locks? Have I been getting this wrong?

WeegieBob, 1 push to engage deadlocks and 2 to lock without deadlocking.
